Paul Klein

Paul Klein, a cornerstone of Bellingham, Washington's music scene, has been enchanting audiences since 1976 with his soulful piano performances and dynamic leadership of the dance band, The Atlantics.

Early Life and Musical Influences

Raised in Oregon, Klein's musical journey was shaped by the vibrant Northwest dance bands of his youth, including Paul Revere & the Raiders, The Wailers, The Kingsmen, and The Sonics. At 17, his passion deepened upon discovering blues legends like Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, and Junior Wells, as well as the psychedelic sounds emanating from San Francisco. In 1976, he moved to Bellingham to join the band Wet Paint, touring extensively before co-founding Eddie and the Atlantics with guitarist Jim Fricke. Eventually, the band evolved into The Atlantics, with Klein at the helm, becoming a beloved fixture in the local music scene. 

Musical Career and Community Engagement

Beyond his performances with The Atlantics, Klein has been a solo pianist, gracing venues like Boundary Bay Brewery's taproom for over 20 years. His "Piano and Pints" sessions not only entertain but also support local charities, with proceeds benefiting organizations such as the Bellingham Food Bank and Dementia Support NW. 

Educator and Mentor

Klein's commitment to music extends into education. He has been a music teacher in Bellingham Public Schools, sharing his expertise with students at Fairhaven and Kulshan Middle Schools. 

Personal Life

Balancing his roles as a musician, teacher, husband, and father of three, Klein remains deeply rooted in the Bellingham community. His enduring presence and contributions have made him a cherished figure, inspiring generations through both his music and his dedication to community enrichment. 

From his early days influenced by regional bands to his current status as a local legend, Paul Klein's life reflects a harmonious blend of passion, talent, and community spirit.
